Background

1981

The Ministry of University Affairs resolved to establish a library as a government unit at the division level under the Office of the Vice President. This was announced in the Royal Gazette, Special Issue, Volume 98, Part 205, page 18.

1982

A proposal was made to the institution to establish an institutional archive and to construct a royal monument of His Majesty King Mongkut for veneration on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of his birth and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Thonburi Campus (4 February 1985).

1983

The first King Mongkut Sports Competition was held. A major flood occurred across the entire campus, reaching a record-high level. The KMUTT Cooperative Store Co., Ltd. was officially registered.

1984

The institution approved the use of the Chemical Engineering Building as the location for the offices of the Royal Project on Ready-to-Eat Foods and the Royal Initiative Development Project, as well as the construction of a product storage facility. The Master of Arts program in Linguistics was launched.

1985

The 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Thonburi Campus was celebrated. The institution was separated into three independent institutions. A ceremony was held to enshrine the statue of His Majesty King Mongkut, which had been fully cast in bronze, onto its pedestal.

             On 5 May 1988, the Royal Decree on the Establishment of Government Agencies within King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Thonburi B.E. 2531 was promulgated and published in the Royal Gazette, Volume 105, Part 73, pages 136–137, providing for the establishment of government agencies within King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, including the establishment of the Office of the Library and Information Resources Center.

             On 30 June 2005, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Engineering Practice Building and officially opened the Information Resources Center and the KLINIC Room, and viewed the exhibition “KMUTT and the Dimension of a Learning and Living Community” at the Office of the Library Building.

1981

On 12 March 1981, the Ministry of University Affairs resolved to establish a library as a government unit at the division level under the Office of the Vice President. This was announced in the Royal Gazette, B.E. 2514 edition, Special Issue, Volume 88, Part 43. The principal objective was to produce vocational education teachers at the degree level.

On 2 July 1981, the Ministry of University Affairs issued an announcement on the division of government agencies within King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology B.E. 2524, published in the Royal Gazette, Special Issue, Volume 98, Part 117.

1982

On 2 February 1982, a proposal was submitted to the institution for the establishment of an institutional archive. Throughout 1982, significant events occurred in the pages of history.

On 22 October 1982, a committee was appointed for the project to construct a royal monument of His Majesty King Mongkut for veneration on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of his birth and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Thonburi Campus (4 February 1985).

On 8 December 1982, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the opening of the 4th Technology Exhibition and officially opened the Faculty of Energy and Materials Building, the Department of Chemistry Building, and the library.

1983

On 4 August 1983, the Ministry of University Affairs approved the establishment of the Departments of Mechanical Education, Electrical Education, and Microbiology within the Faculty of Industrial Education and Science.

On 22 August 1983, the first King Mongkut Sports Competition was held.

On 10 November 1983, a major flood affected the entire campus, reaching a record-high level. Training workshops suffered damage, including Civil Engineering 1, Industrial Engineering 2, and Industrial Engineering 3.

On 20 November 1983, the KMUTT Cooperative Store Co., Ltd. was officially registered.

1984

On 11 January 1984, the institution approved the use of the Chemical Engineering Building as the location for the offices of the Royal Project on Ready-to-Eat Foods and the Royal Initiative Development Project, as well as the construction of a product storage facility.

In the academic year 1984, the Master of Arts program in Applied Linguistics (English for Science and Technology) was launched in the Department of Language and Society, and the revised Bachelor of Engineering curriculum (4-year program) was implemented for new students.

1985

2–8 February 1985                The 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the Thonburi Campus was held to officially raise funds in                                                                 support of the construction project of the Royal Monument for the first time.

12–16 September 1985     The draft Act was approved by Parliament. As a result, the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, which had been                                                              formed through the amalgamation of several colleges, was separated into three independent institutes.

4 November 1985           Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the foundation stone–laying ceremony                                                      for the pedestal of the Royal Monument and the casting ceremony of the statue of His Majesty King Mongkut
                                                     (King Rama IV) at 9:09 a.m.

1–7 December 1985           The ceremony of enshrining the finished bronze statue of His Majesty King Mongkut (King Rama IV) onto the                                                                               pedestal was conducted. The Institute also performed a worship ceremony at the Royal Monument.

9 December 1985           Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, the Royal Princess, represented His Majesty in presiding over the                                                        official opening of the Royal Monument of King Mongkut (King Rama IV). She also opened the 5th Technology                                                                          Exhibition and inaugurated the Office of the Royal Factory for Ready-to-Eat Foods under the Royal Project and Royal                                                          Initiative Projects, operated under the responsibility of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi.
